Dear garden community, happy rain and much of it,
Notices:
1. In the next weeks we will incorporate some new products from several more small local producers, based upon our faith in a healthy local economy, beneficial in many ways.
2. This week we have additional healthy green edible broccoli leaves and passion fruit.  I added propolis, honeycomb, diffrent special honey and pollen. In addition, we will have a new delivery of fresh ginger.

Shavoa Tov,

NOTICES:
1. I'm sorry about the shortages last week of cucumbers and tomatoes - this is the period when the fields are transitioning. There are major shortages in the market in general and their prices went up. It will probably stay this way several more weeks.
2. The summer fruits are disappearing: corn, mango, figs, grapes.... So please take into account that there is uncertainty about them.

Waitting for rain 13-11-11

Dear Friends,

That's it. It's been two weeks since Sukkot, all of the pilgrims should have arrived home by now, we've all prepared our homes for winter, and now we need some rain!
So we could, should and must hope, invite, dance and pray for rain!!!!
Stories I've heard:
About a hundred years ago in the USA Charles Hatfield, a former sewing machine salesman, claimed that he could cause rain to fall by shooting chemicals into the sky. San Diego was going through 2 years of draught and invited him, for pay, to come and bring them some rain.

Sukkot and agriculture

Sukkot & agriculture:
From Wikipedia: "Sukkot is agricultural in origin... Coming as it did at the completion of the harvest, Sukkot was regarded as a general thanksgiving for the bounty of nature in the year that had passed."
I am sure that sukkot during the time of the bible was the holiday of gathering the crops, the end of one growing season and the beginning of another. When the crops are abundant and pretty, everyone is happy and the holiday is appropriate!
"Thou shalt keep the feast of tabernacles seven days, after thou hast gathered in from thy threshing-floor and from thy winepress.

waitting for rain

Hi, I'm back

It was fun and thanks for the greetings.

I got back right in time for the picking, packing and planting seedlings for winter, and a little rain!!!

Before I tell you about the garden and planting, a friend of mine wishes to spoil us with a gift for winter to help us get back to routine. My friend Ellen Rose Snor from Moshav Mata concocts with her own hands natural cosmetic products that enhance the beauty and health of the skin. She has background in reiki, aromatherapy, Swedish massage, EFT and shiatsu.

Dear all,

What a first rain !!!! what a way to start.....It is difficult to describe in words the happiness and the wealth we felt this morning in the garden, I quoted and tried to explain three meanings to the word "Yo're" (the first rain of the season).

1. "שמורה את הבריות להטיח גגותיהן ולהכניס פירותיהן ולעשות כל צורכיהן" )Babylon Talmud). In free translation - we see that it is possible to begin to plant for the winter.

2.

Hello everyone,

Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain!

How great to write to you after a deluge, again. A lot of water fell and the garden is full of mud and life.

I imagine how the small seeds, for which it does not matter where there are planted, either near a dripper or not, are soaking in the mud and begin to wake up and sprout.....how plants, large and small can simply eat and drink, synthesize and fantasize the whole day and to grow without effort.

Hi,

A lot of rain fell!

Our situation is now twice as good as it was when I last wrote about the water that falls from the heavens. We have now reached 42% of the average annual rainfall, whereas before we were at 21%. This is ADVANCE # 1, and the most meaningful.

ADVANCE #2:

Today I finished the first round of decisions regarding the species of vegetables to plant for the summer, and in the following days they will be planted in seed trays.

Hi 12/02/09

Hi,

This morning (still dark) I woke up to the wonderful ring of tapping on my roof. I was so happy. When I got to the garden, I was surprised to see that hail had fallen. HAIL!*

As I looked around, I found a pile of hailstones that had not yet melted and each one was the size of a marble.

The lettuces look like they were already a salad, broccoli with broken heads, cabbages exploding from slashings. Green beans and peas that I have waiting for to bear fruit are lying on the ground instead of climbing their trellises.

Shalom to everyone,

First of all, I want to remind everyone of the change in the delivery day.

If The lack of rain and cold weather is the result of global warming, it is happening faster than expected and we are in trouble.

From the beginning of this winter, only 115 mm of rain fell in Jerusalem. The multi-year average rainfall here is 554 mm. accordingly, we have so far received only 21% of the expected rainfall for the winter, and only 36% of the expected rainfall up to this date.
